Summer Immersions

I'M Disaster Response Team

Dates: May 17-23, 2020

Our Disaster Response Team will be heading to Houston, Texas, again, to serve with SBP in their disaster relief efforts after Hurricane Harvey. SBP is a nationally awarded disaster recovery organization whose work depends on volunteers like our group to restore people’s homes and lives.
Estimated cost: $700

I'M L’Arche Boston

Dates: May 17-23, 2020

L’Arche is world-wide network of communities of people with and without developmental disabilities. The Iona in Mission groups will be sharing time and living together with the L’Arche Syracuse and L’Arche Boston North members to witness their community and the dignity of every person regardless of ability. This immersion will be a journey of spirituality, community, and awareness of developmental disability.

I'M Camp Friendship, Mississippi

Dates: June 7-13, 2020

The Iona in Mission Mississippi team will serve as counselors at Camp Friendship, which is a week-long overnight camp experience for children living in poverty and of which a third to a half live in foster care. The fun-filled, safe, and loving camp week is a real highlight of the children’s years. Our Gaels will help make this a reality through their presence and compassion to those little ones. 
Estimated Cost: $500

I'M Mustard Seed, Kingston, Jamaica

Dates: May 17-23, 2020

Students will travel to Kingston, Jamaica to work with Mustard Seed Communities (MSC), which is an international nonprofit dedicated to caring for the most vulnerable populations throughout the developing world. MSC manages sustainable agriculture initiatives and provides education, nutrition, and skills training programs in order to improve the economic, social, and spiritual conditions within marginalized communities.
Estimated cost: $1,500

I'M Zambia

Dates: May 18 - June 1, 2020

Participants in the Zambia immersion act as servant-learners, immersing themselves in the Zambian culture and customs in Mazabuka, “the sweetest town in all of Zambia.” The group serves at the Christian Brothers’ Changa Changa community school, the City of Joy home for at-risk girls, and accompanies home caregiver teams on visits to the elderly sick and people living with HIV/AIDS. The team also visits the Magoye Village to experience rural Zambian life and travels to Livingstone, Zambia, to visit the natural wonder of Victoria Falls.
