Core Curriculum Requirements

  • Can you give me a quick overview of the core curriculum requirements?

    The following provides an overview of the core structure:
    • Columba Cornerstone Seminar, 4 credits
    • English Composition (ENG 120/122), 3 credits
    • Humanities: (Philosophy, Religious Studies, Literature, History, Fine and Performing Arts), 15 credits. Students take one course in each area.
    • Humanities Centerpiece Course (English, History, Philosophy, Religious Studies), 3 credits, students take one course
    • STEM: (Math, Science, Computer Science), 9 credits. Students take one course in each area.
    • Social Science /Business: (Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Business), 6 credits. Students take any 2 courses.
    • Diversity, Cross-cultural, & Global Perspectives, 6 credits (3 of which must be a foreign language course).

    TOTAL:  46 credits

  • In addition to the overview of the core curriculum, are there any other requirements for completing the core?

    Yes, there are two other requirements.
    1. Students must complete an Integrated Core Theme (ICT).
    2. By the time of graduation, students must complete two courses that are designated Writing Intensive (WI) and two courses that are designated Oral Intensive (OI). A single course could be designated both WI and OI and such a course would count toward both requirements.
