“Career Development has been so incredibly helpful to me! From helping work on my resume, to doing a mock interview, they’ve helped me along every step of the way. I got my first teaching job at the end of August. During my interview, the principal kept telling me how impressed he was with my resume. I know that he was impressed with my experience, but Career Development helped me put everything together and is to be credited for the presentation. They have a great eye for detail! I knew that as soon as the principal complimented my resume, I had to thank Career Development. I go to them for everything career related, such as to add a new piece of information to my resume. Some of my friends have sent me their resumes because they know that I’ve learned so much from Career Development. I do, ultimately, tell them it’s best to drop into Career Development’s office. They have great walk-in hours and are really convenient. Thank you for everything!!! Special thanks to Keith and Phyllis!”

“The Gerri Ripp Center for Career Development helped me tremendously as a freshman. They helped turn my resume from ‘alright’ to ‘excellent’. It’s gotten to the point where interviewers actually take the time to make a comment about the professionalism of my resume. I was even able to get numerous offers for internships with big name companies during my freshman year because of the ‘Career Expo’ that Career Development sponsors. I strongly encourage everyone to visit the Gerri Ripp Center Career Development as soon as possible.”

"Since freshman year, Career Development has assisted me with every aspect of getting a job/internship. They have helped me with critiquing my resume/cover letters, job applications, mock interviews, thank you letters, and even how to professionally accept offers. In my 4 years of college I have had 6 internships in total, 2 of them for large companies like General Electric and KPMG. I received a full time offer from KPMG after my internship in the spring of senior year.
Another way that the Center has helped me in my college career is through their events, one in particular is ‘Meet A Career Mentor’. While making the difficult decision of determining the type of accounting I wanted to pursue, I decided to reach out to the alumni who I connected with during ‘Meet A Career Mentor’ for his advice about the avenue that would be best for my interests. Two of the mentors guided me in my choice to try audit where I had a great experience during my Accounting Winter Internship with KPMG. The Center for Career Development has assisted me with getting to where I am today and I cannot express how grateful I am to them for this. It is never too early to start your career…, and if you are unsure of what path you want to follow, the department will help you.”

"Attending the Iona College Career Fair was a not a good, but a GREAT decision. I was connected to a handful of employers within my field and ended up securing several interviews. Three weeks later, I have two job opportunities as a direct result. At first, I was concerned I would not find opportunities geared towards graduate students. I quickly discovered, however, that the majority of companies are looking to fill a variety of positions, ranging from internships and summer positions to part-time and full time employment. I highly recommend attending the career fair - you will not be disappointed!"
"Career Development truly gave me an immense amount of guidance and assistance when it came to creating my resume and obtaining an internship. I cannot thank them enough for hosting Meet a Mentor, an event that helped me to get the best internship I could have asked for. Even after the event, they were simply a phone call or e-mail away, helping me each step of the way. Thank you all again for everything you have done.”

“Career Development has been very helpful in assisting me with my resume and preparing me for my interviews with employers. In preparation for the Career Fair, I went to Career Development for some advice and suggestions on my resume. After attending the Career Fair, I was then chosen and selected to interview with IBM, where the office also offered support by setting up a mock interview so that I could feel comfortable and prepared. I ended up succeeding past the first interview and was chosen to go on a phone interview. Once again, Career Development has helped assure me that I was prepared. Overall, I ended up receiving an offer to join IBM as a Co-op starting in the summer and accepted the position. Thanks to Career Development, I was able to feel reassured and at ease throughout the process. The office was very friendly and supportive each step of the way!”
“My experience with the Gerri Ripp Center for Career Development has been beneficial in shaping me into an aware and confident young professional, equipped to take on the challenges of the working world. Whether it is helping to prepare for an interview, editing a resume or just talking out different career paths and opportunities with a staff advisor, this office has helped me to feel more confident as I transition into post-graduate life. Additionally, The Gerri Ripp Staff advisors are a wonderful resource. They have many professional connections that can translate into internships and job leads for students as well as their own personal professional experience that can serve as valuable learning opportunities. During my time with the office, I have formed a personal relationship with one of the career advisors, Darelle. She has always been available to answer any of my questions and it is clear that she along with all of the other advisors take a vested interest in long-term student success! By taking advantage of the various events and services that are provided through the Gerri Ripp Center for Career Development, students will find that expanding their professional network and preparing to enter the workforce is not as daunting as one may think! I would highly recommend making a visit!”

So I am teaching an eight week course on preparing for English job interviews and I am using everything I learned from you all! I am even teaching them to write resumes!! I wanted to thank you for all you have taught me and know it is being put to good use in China!!”
“When I came to Iona College, I had no idea what I wanted to study. I knew I wanted to enter the business world, but I was not sure which route to go. After I took the introduction to information systems, I shortly knew after that this is what I wanted to study. I declared my major spring semester of my sophomore year and quickly jumped into taking three different high level classes within information systems. Within the first few weeks of the fall semester my junior year, there were signs and notifications for a PepsiCo Internship Information Session. I was hesitant to attend, since I was new in information systems and was limited in knowledge and experience. Needless to say, I attended the session just to get more information. Following the information session, I set up an appointment with Career Development to help me build up my resume and after a few sessions, and a few emails sent back and forth, I was ready to send my resume to the PepsiCo recruiters with little hope of getting a response. After I found out that I got an interview, I quickly reached out to career services to set up a mock interview. Attending the mock interview session before my actual interview was a HUGE benefit to prepare for the real thing. We went over ways I could speak about my resume, possible questions that they would ask me, and we even went over what clothes to wear! After this mock interview, I knew that I was fully prepared to attend the interview. Luckily enough, I did get an offer extended to be a BIS (IT) intern at PepsiCo in White Plains in the summer of 2017. I am so thankful for the career development center at Iona for helping me prepare for this amazing opportunity that I was given.”

“The career development office has been consistent with helping me to improve my resume. There's no way I would have been able to make my resume without the assistance of the career development staff. I would also strongly suggest to anyone that is making or editing their resume to stop by for advisement on how to do so. In my time at Iona the career development office has helped me the most in regards to my future.”

"I have to say, without the Gerri Ripp Center for Career Development I would not be on the path that I am headed on today. Beyond the incredible services they offer, they are dedicated, committed, and have a genuine desire to see their students succeed. Each and every one of the advisors offers a wealth of knowledge and years of professional experience. On top of being amazing career coaches, they all have a wonderful sense of humor and are easy to communicate with. I highly recommend Career Development to everyone I know.
Thank you Chris, Phyllis, Keith, Devon, Darelle, and Cindy for all of your love and caring support throughout the years! Through the mentoring each of you provided, I have gained the confidence to know I can walk into any professional atmosphere and make a meaningful contribution."
