Iona University’s 53rd Annual Winged Foot Golf Outing Raises $566,000 for Student Scholarships
Longstanding partnership with Winged Foot Golf Club continues to expand educational opportunities for deserving students

Iona University’s 53rd Annual Board of Trustees Invitational at Winged Foot Golf Club brought together trustees, alumni, friends and supporters on September 8, raising $566,000 in support of student scholarships, the most ever raised through the event.
For more than 50 years, Iona University and Winged Foot Golf Club have partnered to expand access to an Iona education through the Winged Foot Scholarship program, providing deserving students—including Winged Foot employees and their families—with support to pursue their education at Iona.
“This relationship with Winged Foot is something special,” said Iona University President Seamus Carey, Ph.D. “For more than 50 years, it has opened doors for students and families while bringing together a community that believes deeply in the transformative power of an Iona education. We are grateful to everyone whose generosity continues to make that possible.”
Over the years, more than 100 Winged Foot employees or their children have attended Iona University, representing millions of dollars invested in students and their futures.
Alfred F. Kelly Jr. ’80, ’81MBA, ’19H, retired executive chairman and chief executive officer of Visa and current chairman of Iona University’s Board of Trustees, reflected on the enduring value of higher education and Iona’s continued momentum.
This year, a record-breaking $566,000 was raised in support of student scholarships.
“An education at the college level is still critical, and Iona is energized and confident about the future,” Kelly said. “But success must be earned every day—with every student, in every classroom and at every event. Our standard is simple: do everything first-class. That commitment will continue to guide Iona forward.”
Tom Moran, vice president for Advancement & External Affairs, recognized Iona’s Board of Trustees and all the supporters whose generosity made the annual outing possible, noting that it was a record-breaking year, with the highest level of direct support from the Board of Trustees in the event’s history.
“The generosity surrounding this outing reflects the strength of the Iona community,” Moran said. “Our trustees, sponsors, golfers and friends come together year after year because they understand the difference scholarship support can make in a student’s life. We are tremendously grateful to everyone who made this year’s event a success.”
The 53rd Annual Board of Trustees Invitational continued a tradition that has united Iona University and Winged Foot Golf Club for more than half a century around a shared commitment to education, opportunity and student success.
