I. SAC meeting called to order. Attendance taken by Anthony Scaccia.
II. Dr. Nyre addressed SAC
- Thanked SAC and the Iona University Community for their support during his tenure as President of Iona University
- There is a lot of work that still needs to be done.
- Hoping to close out the Compensation Plan and the undergraduate academic plan by May 1 so can be given to the College Council
- Presidential Search committee is meeting candidate. Understand that there is a strong pool of candidates. The Board of Trustees and the Search Committee will not sacrifice quality for speed.
- Please give the new President a chance – s/he will need time to sort out priorities – don’t over interpret moves – be patient and supportive. The new President will need to figure out how to do More with Less just like every other College.
III. Critique of the Presidential Search Committee
- More than one comment on the fact that there are no “staff” on the Committee. Denise Hopkins is on the Search Committee – should no longer be a distinction between Staff and Administration, but that is not reality. No SAC members on the Presidential Search Committee.
- Very aggressive timeline – Board of Trustees has a contingency plan if next President can not start on a timely basis. Dr. Nyre is not privy to the plans
- Candidates will not come to campus since confidentiality is an issue.
IV. Compensation Plan – discussion led by Br. Jason Ford and Anne Marie Schettini-Lynch
- As long as the College meets or exceeds Budget, then there should be funds available for spot bonuses and merit raises
- Job Re-evaluation
- If there is a 25% or more change in job responsibilities, then the position should be re-evaluated. Not sure who “triggers” the re-evaluation process.
- Will take place if there is a clear re-organization in the Department
- Will take place if more direct reports are added to the position
- Will take place if adding new areas of responsibility
- Will take place if there are changes in levels of authority and responsibility
- First step is always to speak to your supervisor
- If employee is on Paid Family Leave, then their status is “Active”
- No information will be released as to what constitutes a band, the salary range for a band or which jobs fall into which bands.
- If an employee is at the top of a band, then will not be eligible for a salary increase that goes to the base.
- Unanimous vote in SAC to change the paragraph in the Compensation Plan to put in a mechanism to periodically review the bands and let employees know if they are at the top of their band. Should be a living and breathing document.
V. Employee BBQ will be held on May 13 in Dr. Nyre’s backyard from noon until 2:00 p.m.
- Casey DelliCarpini, Andy Albrecht and Carol Ann Kenny will assist with the plans for the BBQ
VI. SAC Executive Search Committee – Anthony Scaccia, Anthony Mastantuoni, Michele Nelson, Patti Besen and Mary Grant
- Will have a SAC Executive Board in place for the May 7 meeting
- Voting will be done via e-mail
VII. Br. Bray Awards
- Voting has been completed. Committee will meet to select recipients and will have plaques ordered for presentation at the Employee BBQ
VIII. Due to time constraints, the College Committee reports were not discussed. Please refer to the Iona University Governance pages for minutes from the various committees.
Meeting was adjourned at 3:10 p.m.
