My Iona

General Use Policies

All library patrons must show a valid Iona ID card with a bar-code in order to borrow books, audio visual, and reserve materials. Patrons are responsible for the care of all materials checked out on their ID cards.

It is important to report lost or stolen ID cards immediately to the Library, as well as to the Security Office. Students must clear their library accounts in order to register for classes, graduate, or have official transcripts released. Iona College employees must clear their library accounts before leaving employment with the College.

  • Food is allowed only in the café area.
  • Please be considerate of others. Use cell phones in main entrance and on landings only.

Library privileges are extended to all members of the Iona College community. Current full and part-time students, faculty, administrators, and staff members may borrow from the Iona College Libraries, use the Periodicals Collection, and request Document Delivery Services.

Alumni and Faculty Emeriti, as determined by the Faculty Handbook, may borrow from the Iona College Libraries and use the Periodicals Collection. Electronic resources are often unavailable to Alumni and Faculty Emeriti because of licensing restrictions.

Iona College Libraries' online catalog system contains records for all books, periodicals, and audiovisual materials cataloged in Ryan Library, the Helen Arrigoni Library/Technology Center, and the Rockland Graduate Library.

The catalog is publically accessible via the library's homepage.

Electronic catalog records show an item's Call Number, Library Location (Ryan, Arrigoni, Rockland, Irish, Reference, etc.), and Status (i.e. whether or not an item is AVAILABLE or CHECKED OUT).

Borrowers must present a valid Iona ID card each time they wish to check out library materials. Students, faculty and staff may obtain bar-coded, picture ID cards at the Security Office located in the LaPenta Student Union. Students attending Iona only for a summer course are issued temporary ID cards at the Ryan Library Help Desk.

Alumni may obtain a bar-coded library card using the Alumni Library Card Request Form or at the Ryan Help Desk, Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm. Interested Alumni must provide valid identification, including name and address, such as a driver's license or passport. The latest edition of the Iona College Alumni Directory will be consulted, as will the computerized patron file (for recent graduates) for verification of alumni status. The provided library card allows alumni to borrow up to five books at one time. Please note the Alumni Library Card does not grant access to the Iona College network, computing facilities or subscription online resources.

Reference books, periodicals, videos, and most items on Reserve may not leave the library.

All circulating items must be returned on or before the due date. The borrowing period is approximately 28 days for items in the regular collection. Curriculum Collection (CC) items may be checked out for 7 days, Leisure Reading Collection books for 21 days. You can check your account online to see when items are due.

The total number of items borrowed at one time may not exceed 35. The total number of books borrowed on one subject, (beginning with the same Dewey Classification numbers) may not exceed 10.

The late fine for the regular collection is $.05 per day, per item.  The charge for any lost or damaged item is the replacement cost.  If the replacement cost cannot be determined, the charge will be a minimum of $50 plus overdue fines accrued.

You can renew books online, by phone, or in person as long as the item is not being requested by another patron. To renew online, log into Your Library Account (upper right corner, click Sign-In) to view those items. More information on accessing your Library Account is available here. You can also call or visit the Help Desk for assistance with your account and renewing books.

If an item whose circulation status in the catalog is "AVAILABLE" cannot be found on the shelf, patrons may fill out a yellow Search Request Card at the Help Desk. The library staff will search for the item and notify the requester of the result, usually within a few days. If the item is found, it will held for up to one week at the Help Desk.

Please note, Interlibrary Loan requests for items held by the Libraries will only be processed if items have been determined missing.

The Iona College Library facilities and resources are primarily for the use of Iona students, faculty, administrators, and staff. Visitors are welcome provided that, upon entrance, they register and show photo identification at the Main Desk.

Ryan Scanner Instructions

  1.  Confirm the scanner is on (The scanner light will be green). Press the power button to turn it on or off.
  2.  To scan a single page, lift scanner lid and place face down.
    * To scan multiple pages, see "Scanning multiple pages using the feeder" at bottom of these instructions.
  3.  Log into Windows on one of the connected computers.
  4.  Check for a green dot on the bottom right of the screen.

    >If the dot is yellow, click the dot. In the box that pops up under Select Printers it should read No.
    >If not, select No. > click Switch > click OK to make the scanner active. The dot should turn from yellow to green
  5.  Double-click on EPSON Scan on the desktop.
  6.  At the top of the window, choose Color, Grayscale or Black & White from Image Type.
  7.  Click Scan.
  8.  Once the File Save Settings box opens,  save to your U: drive (network drive), select  Other > Browse > Computer >  U: Drive  > OK
  9.  Once the location is selected, choose the image type that you would like the scanned item to be saved as (JPEG, PDF, etc.)
  10.  Click Ok


  • Log into your account on the SSO page at and select Microsoft Office 365.
  • Click on the icon with nine small boxes next to Office 365 in the upper left corner.
  • Select OneDrive.
  • When the OneDrive page displays, click Upload and navigate to your saved scanned item on the U: drive
  • Select the item and click Open
  • The item should have uploaded to your OneDrive
  • Once the location is selected, choose the image type that you would like the scanned item to be saved as (JPEG, PDF, etc.) 
  • Click Ok

If you save the file as a JPEG you will not be asked if you would like to add more pages
If you select PDFor Multi-TIFF, you will be asked do you want to continue scanning and add more pages, choose between:
Add Page to scan another item
Edit Page to finish scanning and edit pages before saving file
Save File to finish scanning and save file without editing pages

*Scanning multiple pages using the feeder 

  • Place pages face up in this document feeder.
  • Choose image type PDF or Multi-TIFF in order to scan multiple pages into a single file. You will see the prompt to add/edit pages.
  • To scan multiple pages of different sizes try to scan pages of same size first, then when adding pages, adjust the size of the page guide to accommodate different size page(s).
  • There is no limit to the number of pages to be scanner into one file but please note the size of the file (gets larger as you add each page).  If you are planning to send the large file in an email, please keep in mind that some email systems reject emails with large attachments.

Copy machines are available in the libraries. All copying must conform to the Copyright Law of the United States, as set forth in Title 17 of the United States Code.

In Ryan Library, there are copy machines on the first floor in the Reference Room and the Periodicals Room. Cost is $.10 per page. Machines accept coins, dollar bills and $5 bills. Ryan Library has a free microform (fiche and film) reader-printer machine. Ask at Help Desk about using this machine.

In the Arrigoni Library, the copy machine is located in the Reference area and the free microform reader/printer machine is located near the microfiche cabinets.

Please contact the Help Desk with questions and issues regarding copiers and printers.

Our databases and electronic resources automatically authenticate access for on-campus users, however, off-campus users must login to obtain e-resources.

When accessing a database from home, users will get a popup window asking them for their Iona Computer ID and Password – the same ID and password used to login to on-campus wireless, lab computers and Blackboard.


If you cannot login to a database ask yourself a few questions

  1.  Is the issue with the resource, or with your Iona Computer ID and Password?
    • The easiest way to test this question is to try logging into your MyIona SSO account, as it uses the same authentication system. 
    • If you CANNOT login to your MyIona SSO account go to Password Station to reset your computer password. If you have any issues resetting your password, contact the Help Desk.
    • If you CAN login to MyIona, the issue is with the resource.  Continue to the next troubleshooting question.
  2.  Is the problem related to the web browser you are using?
    • Sometimes, when interfaces are updated, they have compatibility issues with certain web browsers.  Try opening the resource from a different browser (ex: Internet Explorer, Chrome, Mozilla, Safari, etc.) to see if this is the issue.
    • You can always check with the Help Desk to see they have knowledge of any such issues.
  3.  Is your Java up to date?
    • Many databases require the most up-to-date Java in order to run.
    • Check whether you are receiving any error messages that mention Java.
  4.  Do you get an error message mentioning your Institution’s EZProxy Administrator?
    • If you do, please send an email to Jill Gross. Please include the name of the resource and the link you were using to try and access it.
    • If you are on campus, copy the link you are trying to use into a new browser window and delete all text before the first '=' sign  (e.g. ). The edited link should get you to the resource you want to access.
  5.  Are you being asked for payment or for a login other than your Iona Computer login?
    • From off-campus, Iona's subscription databases can only be accessed via the links on the Iona Library A-Z List or from the library catalog. If one of these links produces a payment request, please contact the Research Desk to see if the resource can be obtained some other way.
  6.  Are you trying to access the resource from a location with a strong firewall system?
    • Often, large companies and other organizations have firewalls on their networks that prevent access to electronic resources without special configurations. If this is the case, you will see a message stating that access to the desired server or URL is not allowed.
    • You will have to contact your network administrator for access permission or wait to until you can access the item from somewhere else.
