Bicycle Registration Policy

1. Policy

Iona University encourages the use of bicycles as a sustainable, healthy, and efficient mode of transportation. This policy outlines the rules and responsibilities for bicycle use on campus to ensure safety, accessibility, and proper bike management.

Iona University is not responsible for damage or theft.

2. Bicycle Registration

  • Recommended Registration: All bicycles used or stored on Iona University property should be registered with the Office of Campus Safety.
  • How to Register:
    • Complete the registration form in person at the Campus Safety Office.
      • New Rochelle Campus - LaPenta Student Union
      • Bronxville Campus – Sieker Hall
    • Provide the bicycle’s serial number, if known, and a brief description (make, model, color).
    • Receive a registration sticker, which should be clearly displayed on the bicycle frame.
  • Why Register?
    • Helps recover lost or stolen bikes.
    • Grants access to bike racks.

3. Parking

  • Bicycles must be parked in designated bike racks located throughout campus.

    • Bronxville Campus

  • Parking in any other unauthorized areas is prohibited and will result in removal/impounded by Campus Safety.

Iona University is not responsible for any damage to the bicycle or the lock.

4. Safety Guidelines

  • Cyclists must follow all campus and local traffic laws.
  • Riding on sidewalks or stairs is strictly prohibited.
  • Helmets are strongly encouraged.
  • Use of front and rear lights is required after dark.
  • Reckless riding, including speeding or endangering pedestrians, is strictly prohibited.

5. Abandoned or Unregistered Bicycles

  • Bicycles left unattended for more than 30 consecutive days may be considered abandoned.
  • Unregistered and improperly parked bicycles (not in designated rack) will be tagged and impounded.
  • Owners will have 30 days to claim impounded bikes before they are donated or recycled.

6. Enforcement

  • The Office of Campus Safety is responsible for enforcing this policy.

    • Bicycle impoundment
    • Loss of campus biking privileges

E-Scooters

  • Should also be registered and parked on bicycle racks or designated charging station.
  • Charging station is located on the first level of the garage.
  • Absolutely no E-Scooters allowed indoors at any time.

Skateboards, hoverboards, and skates are prohibited on campus.
