D. DeFino called the meeting to order at 3:38 pm.  Quorum was met.

The Senate discussed faculty concerns regarding compensation.  The President noted ongoing areas of budgetary concerns.  He stated that he is committed to working with constituencies of the university on compensation benchmarks. 

Announcement

Leader needed for the Humanities panel sessions for Iona Scholars Day

Updates

-Guests for Fall term are the Provost on October 6, and the Registrar on December 1.
-The chair and secretary of the Senate will visit the SGA on October 20.
-The Executive Committee will attend monthly meetings with the Provost.
-The chair asked for volunteers to work on the revision of the Faculty Handbook.
-RTA and the Provost’s office are doing most of the work reviewing policies and procedures.  The chair suggests that departments join in the project to work on setting standards for promotion and tenure.

Discussion Item: Core Course Caps

The Senate is concerned about the over enrollment in the Core and discussed how Chairs could be involved in this discussion.

Discussion Item: Individual Yearly Review

The Senate discussed the Individual Yearly Review brought up at the Provost’s 9/8 Town Hall and will seek further clarification.

Action Item: Honors Curriculum Task Force

The slate of candidates for the task force was chosen and was approved unanimously.

Action Item: Formally approving the removal of the IRB chair as an ex-officio member of the CAA

The action item was approved unanimously.

There being no other business, D. DeFino adjourned the Faculty Senate meeting at 6:00 pm.  The next Senate meeting will be held via Zoom on 10/06/2022 at 3:30pm.
