FACULTY SENATE
October 6, 2022 3:30pm

D. DeFino called the meeting to order at 3:38 p.m.  Quorum was met.

Accessibility Issue: The General Counsel and D. Palmer will be meeting with departments to discuss ways to deal with students’ accommodations.
Individual Development Plan: The Provost assured the Senate that submission of the plan is voluntary.
Professional Advisement: Professional Advisors will be responsible for other aspects of advisement e.g. lifting holds.  Department chairs will be in contact with a professional advisor and then appoint mentors to meet with students.

Discussion Item: Elected Committee Chairs Meeting

D. DeFino plans to meet periodically with committee chairs to discuss how the Faculty Senate can be more effective.  It was suggested that Town Hall meetings could serve to keep faculty informed.

Discussion Item: Workload Town Hall

The Senate agreed to find a date to meet with the general faculty to discuss their concerns about workload.

Discussion Item: Increasing Faculty Attendance at Convocation, Honors, and Commencement

The Senate discussed ways of scheduling Convocation to maximize faculty availability, and Commencement and Honors to minimize inconvenience and cost to students and their parents.

Discussion Item: Departmental Right-Sizing:

The Senate will reach out to departments to discuss their projected faculty and infrastructure needs over the next five years.

Action Item: CAA Open Seats

The Senate appointed D. Haughey and M. Veyvoda.

The Senate appointed A. Rosenfeld.

Action Item: Provost Search Committee

The Senate appointed the following faculty members to the committee:
A&S:  N. Redcross and A. Stackhouse
LSB:   E. Hamerman and A. Qayyum
SHS:   J. Gerometta
Item closed.

There being no other business, D. DeFino adjourned the Faculty Senate meeting at 5:29 pm.  The next Senate meeting will be held via Zoom on 11/03/2022 at 3:30 p.m.
