Faculty Senate Minutes, January 26, 2023

D. DeFino called the meeting to order at 3:35 p.m.  Quorum was met.

Approval of Minutes

Minutes from the meeting on 12/01/22 were approved via email on 01/23/23.

Announcements

Student initiated submissions for Scholars Day ends on 02-23-23.  Contact B. Gaines for further information.

Update Item: Digital Texts

Digital texts will be available through the bookstore Fall 2023 at a cost of $75 a course.  The Senate will talk with the libraries regarding digital texts and ask departments for information regarding their use of textbooks.

Update Item: Faculty Handbook

The handbook is still being reviewed by the attorney.

Discussion Item: Spring Meetings

The Senate agreed to schedule the Senate meeting on 04/27 in person.

Discussion Item: Workload Recommendations

The Senate agreed to send the Workload Recommendations to the President, Provost, Deans, and eventually, all faculty.

Discussion Item: Committee and Governance Recommendations

After some recommended additions to the document, D. Defino will email final draft to the Senate for approval.

Discussion Item: CHATGPT and AI

D. Defino will reach out to Br. Gunn regarding forming a panel representing several departments to discuss this issue.  A suggestion was made to include the subject of academic integrity in the Columba Cornerstone course.

Old Business

Adjunct Faculty promotion criteria has not been distributed to departments.  D. Defino will contact the Dean of A&S.

New Business

The Provost search will introduce three finalists in the coming week who will offer their presentations.
The Senate will hold a retreat this summer.  A suggestion was made to invite the President to the retreat to discuss tenure issues.

There being no other business, D. DeFino adjourned the Faculty Senate meeting at 5:25 p.m.  The next Senate meeting will be held via Zoom on 02/23/2023 at 3:30 p.m.
