Professor Alstete teaches courses in strategic management, management and organizational behavior, managerial decision-making, and small business management. His research interests include business strategy, management development, knowledge management, and higher education. His articles have been published in many journals such as the Journal of Management Development, Journal of Education for Business, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behavior & Research, and others.

  • Br. William B. Cornelia Distinguished Faculty Award, Iona University, May 2023. Presented to the faculty member who is distinguished as a teacher-scholar as documented through student-and-peer-teaching evaluations and scholarly output.
  • Best Management Education & Development Paper for the Management Education Track and nominated for Best Conference Conceptual Award Paper Award at the Eastern Academy of Management Conference in June 2020.
  • Catherine McCabe Award for Innovation & Excellence in Teaching, Iona University, May 2014. This award is for a faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional teaching, recognized concern for students and colleagues and sensitivity to the mission of the College, and a commitment to high standards of professional and personal life.
  • International Golden Key Honor Society, inducted November 2011. Chosen by students to be an Honorary Member by both the executive board and general members. Golden Key is a prestigious group of students that includes the top fifteen percent of each graduating class.
  • 2009 CELTIC (Center for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching at Iona University) Faculty Instructional Technology Award (FITA) to select and implement an online virtual simulation/gaming package for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management courses.
  • Beta Gamma Sigma, 2004. Inducted as a tenured faculty member into the Iona University Chapter of the honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International.
  • April 2002 – Most Outstanding Paper award for 2001 volume, Literati Awards for Excellence. For the article, Alternative Uses of Electronic Learning Systems for Enhancing Team Performance (2001) Team Performance Management, Vol.7 No. ¾, pp 48-52. 
  • ACHE (Association for Continuing Higher Education) Research Grant Award, 1995.  National research study for benchmarking of non-credit program administration.
  • Kappa Delta Pi, 1992. Inducted by the Seton Hall University chapter into the International Honor Society in Education.
  • Phi Delta Kappa International, 1989. Inducted as a graduate admissions administrator by the Iona University chapter into the Professional Educators Association.

Dr. Jeffrey Alstete is a professor of Management and is the author of books and journal articles on business management, small business/entrepreneurship, knowledge management, and higher education. He earned his doctorate from Seton Hall University and holds an MBA and MS from Iona University, as well as a BS in Business Administration from St. Thomas Aquinas College. Previously, Prof. Alstete was associate dean in the School of Business at Iona University, where he grew graduate business enrollment, setup corporate on-site MBA programs, directed successful initial accreditation for AACSB International, and scheduled the first online distance education courses. Prior to that he was director of continuing education at St. Thomas Aquinas College, where he created a variety of non-credit training programs on and off-campus for area corporations and health service providers. Other positions he has held include assistant dean for graduate programs at the Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University, Director of Recruitment and Academic Services at Iona University - Rockland Campus, commercial mortgage analyst at Valley National Bank, and senior tax analyst at Property Evaluation Services, a commercial real estate consulting firm. Dr. Alstete is Co-Editor of Quality Assurance Education and is on the Editorial Advisory Board for Benchmarking: An International Journal by Emerald Publishing.
