Jeffrey W. Alstete, Ed.D.

Dr. Jeffrey Alstete is a professor in the Management and Business Administration Department in the School of Business at Iona College, New Rochelle, N.Y. He is the author of six books and many journal articles on topics such as business management, competitive benchmarking, decision-making, entrepreneurship, knowledge management, strategy, teaching & learning and higher education administration. He earned his doctorate from Seton Hall University and holds an MBA and MS from Iona College, as well as a BS in Business Administration from St. Thomas Aquinas College. Previously, Prof. Alstete was associate dean for over nine years in the School of Business at Iona College, where he grew graduate business enrollment, setup corporate on-site MBA programs, directed successful initial accreditation for AACSB International, and scheduled the first online distance education courses. Prior to that he was director of continuing education at St. Thomas Aquinas College, where he created a variety of non-credit training programs on and off-campus for area corporations and health service providers. Other positions he has held include assistant dean for graduate programs at the Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University, Director of Recruitment and Academic Services at Iona College - Rockland Campus, commercial mortgage analyst at Valley National Bank, and senior tax analyst at Property Evaluation Services, a commercial real estate consulting firm. Professor Alstete also has many years of successful experience in small business and consulting.

Professor Alstete writes articles for journals such as the Journal of Management Development, Journal of Education for BusinessQuality Assurance in Education, the International Journal of Knowledge-Based Organizations, the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behavior and Research, the Journal of Small Business and Enterprise DevelopmentKnowledge Management Research & PracticeTeam Performance Management and others. He also presents papers at academic conferences that are published in conference proceedings and writes book reviews for the Comparative Education Review and the Review of Higher Education. Dr. Alstete serves on the editorial advisory board of Benchmarking: An International Journal and is an editor for the Interdisciplinary Journal of Knowledge, Information, and Management (IJIKM). He also reviews papers for professional association conferences such as the Academy of Management and others.

Honors and Awards

  • Catherine McCabe Award for Innovation & Excellence in Teaching, Iona College, May 2014. This award is for a faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional teaching, recognized concern for students and colleagues and sensitivity to the mission of the College, and a commitment to high standards of professional and personal life.
  • International Golden Key Honor Society, inducted November 2011. Chosen by students to be an Honorary Member by both the executive board and general members. Golden Key is a prestigious group of students that includes the top fifteen percent of each graduating class.
  • 2009 CELTIC (Center for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching at Iona College) Faculty Instructional Technology Award (FITA) to select and implement an online virtual simulation/gaming package for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management courses.
