Why did you choose Iona to pursue your MBA?
My uncle, Felix Mocha — then Chair of the Accounting Department — and Sister Rita Kerr encouraged me to consider Iona. The school's strong reputation confirmed my decision. The mix of ages and the visiting professors’ real-world experience made the program inspiring and welcoming.
How did your MBA help you in your career?
I began as a bilingual secretary, but I always aspired to do more. Getting my MBA turned out to be transformative. A standout moment was a marketing project for Professor Rossman, who praised my work and pushed me to “go for it.” Her mentorship gave me the confidence to trust my instincts and pursue my own international business.
What is your advice for current students?
The best advice I can give is what my father always told me: “You are the architect of your own life.” Find your passion, discover your niche, and go for it. I never dreamed I’d end up where I am today — but it happened because I followed what I loved. Also, be guided by honesty, integrity, and loyalty. Those are the principles that built my reputation and my company.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
In 2003, I was deeply honored to be invited by the Prime Minister of Italy to participate in the first I Convegno Internazionale Degli Imprenditori Italiani Nel Mondo (International Conference of Italian Entrepreneurs Worldwide) in Rome. To be recognized at that level for my work meant the world to me.
What is your favorite movie, book, TV show or podcast?
My favorite movies reflect who I am: “Moonstruck” and “My Cousin Vinny.” Both feature strong women — Cher and Marisa Tomei - in amazing roles. My favorite books are “Roots” by Alex Haley – It inspired me to dig deeper into my own heritage - and “Benedict Arnold: Patriot or Traitor”. It’s incredibly relevant to the world today.
What do you feel are your secrets to success?
Surround yourself with great people. Stay motivated. And most importantly — never give up. As we say in Italian, “capadura” — I have a hard head! But that stubborn determination has carried me through everything.
