Resources for Student Leaders
Thank you for choosing to become a student leader at Iona! You are a shining example to your peers, and your assistance and involvement contributes greatly to the richness of campus life.
Please use and reference the following materials throughout the year. If you run into any issues or have any questions, please contact studentactivities@iona.edu.
We’re excited to help you make your event happen! Follow these four steps to ensure a successful event.
1. Submit Event Concept Proposal Form
Complete the Event Concept Proposal form to outline your event’s concept, check in with your advisor for their approval and move forward with planning your event.
2. Approval Stage
- If your event gets approved: Submit an SGA funding request using the link within the approval email.
- If your event gets denied: Don’t be discouraged! Schedule time to meet with your advisor for feedback. You may need to update or edit your plan in order to get approved.
3. Once Funding is Approved
- To reserve Campus Safety, IT, Facilities and/or make Amazon/external purchases, please meet with your CSE or club advisor.
- If you have a CSE advisor, meet with a CSE student assistant for space reservations, catering orders and to request Club Hub inventory.
- If you do not fall under CSE, contact your advisor for purchases and reservations.
4. Final Check
Schedule a 15-minute meeting with your advisor to review your event details, ensure your preparedness and confirm all arrangements.
Please use this semester event outline to help you stay organized throughout the semester. We recommend creating a OneDrive folder for your organization to store and share this document with your e-board and advisors. This outline allows you to list your event titles, descriptions, locations, and times, and track the planning progress. Yellow tabs indicate incomplete tasks; highlight them in green when you’ve completed each step.
Use the Events Facilitation Form during your executive board meetings to discuss event planning. This tool is essential for delegating responsibilities and logging contact information. Ensure you have one form for each event to clearly define action steps for all individuals involved. This approach helps communicate shifts and availability before the event, ensuring everyone knows their responsibilities.
