Why Study Environmental Studies at Iona?

Our minor is a unique blend of biology, political science and religious studies designed to provide a deep understanding of the "Living Earth."

You will learn from and work alongside passionate faculty members as you investigate the science, politics and religious beliefs that influence the treatment of our planet and our attempts to develop a path to a sustainable future.

What You Will Learn

You will be learn to to evaluate the many political, economic and ethical issues that contribute to our environmental problems. Through critical examination and research, you will lead new ideas and responses to resolving the problems.

In engaging courses, you’ll focus on different areas of the environmental studies landscape: ecological and environmental literacy, politics and policy, and religious study.

Environmental-Focused Community

Join our student-run IC Green Club and help improve sustainability on campus. Lead conversations on recycling and the reduction of energy consumption. Organize environmental clean-ups and planting of gardens. Iona is one of 49 institutions that are part of the Environmental Consortium of Hudson Valley Colleges & Universities!

Thomas Berry Forum for Ecological Dialogue

The forum brings together educators, activists and environmental experts to continue late geologist Fr. Thomas Berry’s legacy of work in ecological awareness and progress towards a more sustainable world for all living creatures.
