Student Success

After a semester of law school, Brendan Eckstein ’21, ‘24MST started tutoring on the side and realized teaching was actually his true passion.

So, quickly shifting gears, he returned to Iona to begin the journey of becoming an educator and now he is set to graduate with his Master of Science in Teaching this May.

“I loved it as an undergrad and grad student,” Eckstein said of Iona. “It was a great choice that allowed me to dive head-first into the world of education.”

Currently student-teaching at nearby Salesian High School in New Rochelle, N.Y., Eckstein said he sees his career path as a calling to transform lives.

“I want to not only be a great social studies teacher, but more importantly be a great person and serve as a role model to my students,” he said.

We talked recently with Brendan to learn more about his Iona journey. Please enjoy!
