Iona College Computer Science Department Honors Community with Annual Celebration

The Iona College Computer Science Department hosted its annual Alumni, Students and Friends Event to provide its close-knit community with the opportunity to socialize, discover new developments within the department, celebrate achievements and reconnect.

This year, the celebration recognized members of the Computer Science Department community who have passed away, including Dr. Frances and Kenneth Bailie, and Robert Larca. The event also honored Iona’s alumni who offered to teach courses at the College and helped students prepare for technical interviews while advising them on career path options.

The alumni and adjunct faculty recognized were: Mike Sancimino ’91, ’96MBA, Christine Spana ’88, Stephanie Hickey ’13MS, Jude Murphy ’13, ’17MS, Megan Irizarry ’18, and Don Gerundo ’89MS.

Graduate assistants Tavis Johnson ’21, ’22MS and Vito Gonnella ’23 were also honored for their extraordinary contribution to the department and its students. Mike Sancimino ’91,’96MBA and Pat Sammon ’21 delivered inspiring speeches, highlighting new technologies as well as valuable advice for successful careers.

The celebration concluded with performances by Lubomir Ivanov, Ph.D., assistant chair and professor of the Computer Science Department, and the student band, Daywalk.
