Organization of Latinx American Students (OLAS)

Formerly Hispanic Organization for Latino Awareness (HOLA)

Mission and Events

The O.L.A.S Club (Organization of Latinx American Students) is a student organization that upholds an appreciation for the richness and beauty of the Latinx culture. We are a diligent group, dedicated to improving opportunities and services for Latinx students as well as the student body as a whole. We want to assist fellow members in widening the knowledge and appreciation of the language and culture of Spain, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean to the Iona community.

Our purpose is to promote educational and cultural awareness of the invaluable contributions that Latinx cultures have provided. We preserve this objective through enriching and recreational activities that we sponsor. During the past years, the organization has participated in and presented numerous cultural activities such as Salsa/ Bachata dance classes, Comedy Nights, and Poetry Slams. Annual events include the Latinx Opening and Closing Ceremonies. OLAS have also been involved in community service efforts like the Boys & Girls Club mission project, and fundraising for the recovery of Puerto Rico. We encourage diverse membership (from all ethnic backgrounds) and provide a wide range of opportunities for all students, in order to enhance student participation on campus.
