WICR (Iona College Radio)
The WICR Executive Board at the 2018 Student Involvement Fair.
WICR is an award-winning student-run radio station at Iona College and produces radio shows hosted by Iona College students of all ages and majors. The purpose of the club is to help students interested in pursuing a career in radio or production build up a portfolio, those who are interested in radio to explore that interest, and to be a platform for radion hosts to share their opinions, thoughts and interests. WICR offers a professional platform for you to be heard on- and off-campus. All prospective members will have the ability to advertise themselves and their show, contribute to the well-being of WICR, and voice their opinions.
At the 2019 Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System award ceremony WICR students received awards for Best Streaming Only Station under 10,000 Students and Best Business Director. They were also finalists for Best Show Promo and Best Promotions Direction and were nominated for Best Collegiate Radio station in the country. Additionally, at the Iona College 2019 GAEL Awards ceremony, WICR’s faculty advisor, Giuseppe D’Aliosio received the Student Government Association Award for Advisor of the Year, and senior Kathryn Adriani was awarded the Office of Student Development Unsung Hero award.
The studio and production suite are located in the basement of the LaPenta Student Union.
WICR is an organization that promotes and encourages the expression of individuality through a positive outlet, while remaining consistent with the mission of Iona College. We commit ourselves to promoting tolerance and respect for ourselves and others. Membership will require an appreciation of diversity within the organization and within the Iona College community as a whole.
The members of WICR will achieve the aforementioned goals by embracing various forms of self-expression, through music and talk radio, while being mindful and respectful on and off the air. The members of WICR will also encourage others to be open-minded and accepting to all types of people and beliefs.
WICR meets bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. on the 3rd floor Media Lab in Murphy Center. Meetings are open to anyone interested in learning more about WICR.
We use these meetings as a platform to implement and discuss new policies, schedule shows, and form relationships between club members.
