Why earn a minor in healthcare management at Iona?

Iona’s strong partnerships with healthcare industry leaders and impressive faculty create a program that helps students identify opportunities in healthcare and prepares them to make the most of them.

Learn Management Principles

Students gain a thorough understanding of management principles and approaches that lead to industry success. In addition, special emphasis is given to what strategies work best for creating productive work environments within the health services sector, as well as some of the common challenges managers face in this in-demand field.

Industry Analysis

Learn more about the unique aspects of our healthcare system and the opportunities and challenges they create. Students also explore topics such as how healthcare services are organized and delivered, the influences that impact healthcare public policy decisions and more.

The Economics of Healthcare

Unlike most other services we spend money on, paying for healthcare is not as straight forward as a consumer paying a company. Instead, many other entities are involved such as insurance and the government, which makes the economics of keeping a healthcare organization financially solvent unique and challenging. Students pursuing this minor learn how to navigate these unique economics and how to make the most of them.

Program Highlights

Networking and Mentorship Opportunities

Alumni from the LaPenta School of Business have gone on to have great success across a variety of industries. Additionally, we have created relationships with a number of healthcare services organizations throughout the area, including Burke Rehabilitation, White Plains Hospital and NewYork Presbyterian. Consequently, students in the program will have opportunities to get to know healthcare executives who can offer practical advice and potentially job opportunities.

Open to All Majors

The healthcare management minor is open to students of all majors, and does not require additional business courses, making it the perfect complement to students studying the health sciences or other health-related degrees. It also sets business majors up for being able to apply their major in a healthcare setting.

Finish in Two Semesters

This twelve-credit minor can be completed in as few as two semesters. Additionally, students can tailor their minor based on whether they gravitate towards healthcare finance or healthcare economics.
