Iona University Dance Team

The Iona University Dance Team is the official dance team under Iona University Performing Arts. Serving as a fundamental part of Iona University, the team promotes Gael Spirit at many events including men’s and women’s basketball games and the MAAC Tournament. In addition, the team plays an integral role in the Iona University community by performing at Homecoming and participating in other events throughout Westchester. As of 2023, the Iona University Dance Team is a national competing team. They compete at the UDA Nationals in Orlando, Florida.

Practices

The dance team practices three times a week:

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays: 7-10 p.m.
  • Sundays: 5-8 p.m.

Additional practices may be required before performances.

Dance Team Tryouts

Tryouts are open to incoming freshmen and current students.

Spring Tryouts

Date: Saturday, May 4, 2024
Location: Hynes Athletics Center, Hegarty Room
Time: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (arrive at least 15 minutes before)

Fall Tryouts

Date: Saturday, September 7, 2024
Location: Hynes Athletics Center, Hegarty Room
Time: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (arrive at least 15 minutes before)

  • Form fitting black dance clothing
  • Jazz shoes & Sneakers
  • Hair and makeup - glamorous, clean and professional
  • Current headshot photo

Choreography will be taught on the day of auditions. Dancers will also have the opportunity to showcase their skills in a freestyle round. Prior dance experience is preferred. Dancers should be able to execute intermediate to advanced level turns, leaps, and kicks as well as performance skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Dance Team members should attain the necessary athletic skills, team oriented and have school spirit. Members must be dedicated to representing the school and their team in a professional manner. Being a part of the Dance Team is a rewarding and fun experience, but also comes with a commitment to ALL practices, games, performances, and monthly team bonding and community service events.
