Iona Players

The Iona University Players have established a tradition of quality musical theatre, maintaining a season of two professionally produced musicals each academic year—one during the fall semester and one during the spring semester. These productions are selected to expand opportunities for theatre artists at Iona while challenging students to grow as performers and engage with relevant, thought-provoking stories. Emphasis is also placed on entertainment, providing students, staff, faculty, and the surrounding community with theatrical experiences that enlighten, charm, and delight.

Membership in the Iona University Players represents joining a family. The organization fosters close-knit, supportive relationships that encourage artistic fearlessness while also promoting personal growth and a strong sense of community.

Not to be upstaged by our popular musicals, the program also presents several non-ticketed special events throughout the year that include cabarets, improve shows, directorial projects, and one-act performances that are designed to keep our student performers, designers, and directors engaged all year long.

Performance

Productions span classic Broadway titles—including "Cabaret" and "The Wizard of Oz"—to contemporary favorites like "Rent" and "The Addams Family," staged in the Murphy Auditorium and intimate studio spaces across campus. Since 2022, the Players have participated in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), consistently earning regional awards in musical theatre, design, and direction. Alongside mainstage shows, the group produces cabarets, improv nights, one-acts, student-directed works, and developmental projects throughout the year.

Tech

Tech students bring productions to life through scenic lighting, sound, costume, and backstage work. They collaborate with directors and performers to shape the visual and technical storytelling of each show, gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and practices.

Management

Management roles support every stage of production —from scheduling and budgeting to coordinating rehearsals and running front-of-house. Students gain organizational, leadership, and communication skills while ensuring performances run smoothly and professionally.

How to Join

Auditions for each production will be announced and open to all enrolled Iona students, regardless of major. Behind-the-scenes opportunities such as directing and stage managing are also available.
