Principles that move the world of business

The study of accountancy combines the skills of a financial adviser, a regulatory specialist and a communications professional. At Iona you’ll gain a firm understanding of accounting principles and practices as well as the social responsibilities and high ethical standards required to meet the challenges of today’s global business arena. You’ll have multiple opportunities to build your skills through field-based learning opportunities and internships. You’ll also have a chance each spring to help prepare taxes for immigrants and the needy––one way Iona students help move the world by serving others.

Focused learning

Accounting students at Iona benefit from faculty who are exceptional teachers as well as active practitioners. Their professional experience and individualized attention ensure that you’ll be well prepared to step into any company and handle major accounting responsibilities including:

  • Cost accounting
  • External or internal auditing
  • Financial accounting
  • Information technology
  • Law and taxation

Jump-start your career during senior year

Every senior has the opportunity to work full-time at a major accounting firm from January 1 to April 15, gaining valuable experience, a leg up on the job search and a decent paycheck. Iona then provides special sections of classes that help seniors complete the semester’s academic requirements, ensuring a smooth path to graduation.

With NYC just 20 minutes from campus, you’ll have ready access to the world’s business epicenter, and graduate with the hands-on experience and credentials you need to make a impact in corporations and not-for-profit organizations anywhere in the world.

Iona Accounting students also have access to the Center for Business Continuity and Risk Management, which provides important information about risk assessment, contingency planning, systems security, crisis and incident management, and recovery planning.

The College Fed Challenge

Each year, students in Iona’s business programs participate in the College Fed Challenge, an elite competition in which students work in teams to research and report on current economic trends and establish a course for monetary policy. The Challenge culminates in a presentation to Federal Reserve officials and Wall Street professionals in downtown Manhattan each November.
