Why Accounting?
Accounting is often referred to as the language of business. A Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (BBA) degree prepares graduates to tell the story of a company–its history, governance and performance results–as expressed in dollars and other corporate goals, such as sustainability.

Iona University’s BBA in Accounting focuses on the fundamentals–providing a solid training in financial accounting and managerial accounting. You gain a firm understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as the social responsibilities and high ethical standards required to meet the challenges of today’s global business arena.
Iona’s accounting program is New York State Education Department (NYSED) licensure qualified–which means you will learn all of the content required for the CPA examination in New York. In addition, our students have the opportunity to join Beta Alpha Psi, a national honors society for accounting students and professionals.
With New York City just 20 minutes from Iona’s campus, you have access to the world’s business epicenter during your accounting program. This proximity offers the opportunity to graduate with accounting internship experiences, equipping you with the hands-on skills you need to make an impact in corporations and not-for-profit organizations anywhere in the world.
What You’ll Learn
The BBA in Accounting explores the foundations of accounting and the areas of auditing, taxation, budgeting and analytics. Iona’s Accounting faculty are exceptional teachers and active practitioners in the field who bring their expertise to illuminate your coursework. You have multiple opportunities to build your accounting skills through hands-on learning, valuable internships and community service, such as preparing taxes for those in need.
Accounting Minor
Undergraduate students can obtain a minor in Accounting by completing 18 credits.

State-of-the-Art Accounting Lab
You will take accounting classes in our new state-of-the-art, eco-friendly LaPenta School of Business. Also, you will have access to a dedicated computer Accounting Lab – an optimal learning environment classroom to explore data analysis!
Accounting Internships
Our accounting internship program offers coveted full-time internship opportunities during the spring semester of senior year with the Big Four–Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG, and PwC–and other accounting firms and corporations.
You’ll gain valuable experience and earn a paycheck, all before you graduate with your BBA in Accounting! There are many leadership programs as well as summer and winter internships, too.
Community Tax Preparation
Take what you learn in the classroom and put it to work in real-world scenarios while giving back to the local community. During income tax season, our accounting students assist others in need with the preparation of the basic tax returns using Intuit software. Just one way our students give back!
In my classroom, I do a lot of active learning, which incorporates real-life situations. I am going to make sure that my students get actively involved. It promotes soft skills that students are expected to have when they graduate. I love what I do.
