Michele Artale OTD, OTR/L, is Assistant Professor in the Graduate Occupational Therapy Program. Dr. Artale has over 20 years of clinical experience working in a variety of practice settings including inpatient and outpatient adult rehabilitation, homecare (early intervention, school aged and adult), sensory gyms, and school-based settings (private preschools, general education and private non-for-profit). In her most recent role, Dr. Artale helped develop and implement a sensory based occupational therapy program in a private not for profit special education school. The focus of Dr. Artale’s doctoral studies was related to the development of inclusive middle school communities. She studied special education students’ perceptions of the degree of support that they received from their teachers and the impact of that support on their school experience. She is currently working towards publishing the results of her study. Dr. Artale has over 10 years teaching experience as an adjunct professor in a graduate occupational therapy program. She is excited to be part of Iona University’s commitment to community engagement through development of a program to support Iona University students with Autism Spectrum Disorder as they navigate challenges presented to them in higher education.
