James '69, '01H, and Anne Marie Hynes
James P. Hynes, who holds a BA and an honorary doctorate from Iona and an MBA from Adelphi University, has been active in the Iona College community since his graduation in 1969. He assumed leadership roles in raising funds and in giving generously to Iona, served as director and president of the Alumni Association and has served on the College’s Board of Trustees since 1995. In early 2006, the Hynes Athletics Center on the Iona campus was dedicated in recognition of his leadership support to the College’s previous fundraising campaign.
Mr. Hynes spent his career in the telecommunications industry as an entrepreneur for the last 25 years. He is the co-founder and first chief executive officer (CEO) of Inteliquent, a leading provider of interconnection services in
the United States. He was a founder, as well as the first CEO of COLT, PLC. COLT was the first non-governmental telecom provider in Europe. While functioning as a venture capitalist, Mr. Hynes participated in funding numerous successful, early-stage telecommunications and technology companies.
Mrs. Hynes holds a BA in mathematics, an MS in management science, and a law degree from Pace University School of Law and is a member of both the New York and Connecticut bars. Her work focuses on women’s issues and, most recently, she has functioned as a pro bono attorney with the
Pace Women’s Justice Center in White Plains, N.Y., engaged in representing domestic abuse victims. She serves on numerous boards and is the president of the Hynes Foundation, which has a diverse mission, including the support of Catholic education.
