Clinical Communication Certificate

A 12-credit post-professional certificate program to increase patient centeredness, humanism in medicine, and to promote effective communication consistent with the current changes in the United States health care system.

  • This 12-credit certificate will strengthen your communication with patients to help build your practice – Patients rank effective  communication as essential.
  • The certificate will teach techniques and for dealing with shy patients – Some patients wait until their health provider turns the door knob to leave before revealing the “real” reason for their visit.
  • Incorporate new communication techniques including motivational interviewing, listening, and multiculturalism – New communication techniques improve compliance, satisfaction and trust.
  • Learn how to deliver bad news to patients, speak with family members, and increase patient satisfaction – Openness, honesty, and trust help build strong healthcare relationships.

Admission Standards

MA, MS, MD, Ph.D., NP, MBA, PSYD, AUD in a healthcare-related field (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Audiology, Nursing)
Admission into Communication Sciences Disorder program or related graduate program at Iona College AND 3.0 Minimum GPA.
