Iona College Students Raise Over $50,000 in Relay for Life Fundraiser
Gaels rallied together in the fight against cancer through a series of events and activities
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (April 2022) — Iona College students raised over $50,000 for the American Cancer Society thanks to its annual Relay for Life fundraiser on April 9, 2022. Organized by the student organization Colleges Against Cancer, the effort brought together various groups and clubs across campus such as fraternities, sororities, athletics, performing arts and many other student interest groups to raise money for cancer treatments, patient care and research. Notably, Phi Sigma Sigma raised over $11,000 on their own.
Relay for Life, which lasted from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., began with an opening ceremony and featured activities such as dance team performances, Zumba, karaoke, raffles, games and much more. Additionally, throughout the fundraiser, at least one person from each team walked laps around the gym, symbolizing standing in solidarity with those battling their diagnosis.
