Samuel Braziel '18 and Kalen Sullivan '17
NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College chemistry students Samuel Braziel '18
, a ACS Chemistry major, and Kalen Sullivan '17
, a Biochemistry graduate, recently had a paper published in the peer-reviewed publication Analyst
, a journal provided by the Royal Society of Chemistry. It was co-authored by two undergraduate students along with mentor Sunghee Lee Ph.D.
, Board of Trustees Endowed Professor of Science and chair of Chemistry.
The paper, titled "Quantitative Raman microspectroscopy for water permeability parameters at a droplet interface bilayer
," examines confocal Raman microspectroscopy used to derive parameters for bilayer water transport across an isolated nanoliter aqueous droplet pair. This method, which is a significant methodological advance in determining water permeability coefficients, employs Iona's Raman microspectrometer facility funded by the National Science Foundation.
Braziel is a four-year member of Iona's men's swimming and diving program and a current team captain. Sullivan competed for Iona's men's cross country and track & field programs before graduating. He is currently employed by Pfizer.
