The MA in Sports Communication & Media is a 36-39 credit degree designed to prepare students for the exciting world of sports media. Students will be trained to function at the highest level of professional competence and integrity in all aspects of sports media, including live game reporting, video editing, studio and radio show production, and sports blogging. The program blends traditional coursework with engagement in real-world broadcasting of professional and collegiate sports. Iona’s proximity to New York City provides the ideal location for students to gain practical experience in the ever-changing sports industry. Our students will possess the decision-making skills to meet the opportunities and challenges of the digital age, the self-awareness and reflectiveness to be life-long learners, and respect for human diversity. Graduates will be well-positioned for careers in all areas of athletic communications and sports broadcasting.
  • The courses are customized to train students specifically for the sports broadcasting industry.
  • Small class sizes offer students the opportunity to be closely mentored by the faculty.
  • Courses are offered in the evenings to accommodate the working student.
  • Students gain hands-on, professional experience working and training with the Fantasy Sports Network, ESPN3, and D-1 MAAC coverage of Iona’s championship basketball teams among other professional venues.
