Dr. Mitchell Bard leads the journalism concentration in the Media & Strategic Communication Department, teaching courses in introductory journalism, news reporting and writing, copy editing and broadcast journalism. His research focuses on how the atomization of the 20th century mass media system has affected news in the 21st century on TV, the internet and social media.

Dr. Nadine Barnett Cosby teaches courses in broadcasting and production, writing for television, TV aesthetics and criticism, and race and gender in the media. She also serves as the faculty adviser for ICTV, the College’s television club. Her research interests are in the areas of media, communication and culture, with a focus on media representation of marginalized populations.

Dr. Tony Kelso serves as department chair and heads up the advertising concentration. He teaches courses in introduction to advertising, the creative process in advertising, media planning & buying, and trends in advertising. He has also taught classes in the areas of first peoples & the media, history of mass communication, mass media & society, politics & popular culture, race & gender in mass communication, research seminar in mass communication, and courses in political campaigns and political propaganda. Dr. Kelso takes an eclectic approach to scholarship – he has produced publications in areas as diverse as advertising & religion, advertising & society, gender nonconforming children in the media, politics and popular culture, and subscription television.

Dr. Bob Petrausch teaches courses in the public relations concentration including introduction to public relations, public relations campaigns and new media, and organizational communication. He also teaches the capstone senior seminar course and the international mass communication course for Media & Strategic Communication students and study abroad students. His research interests include public relations campaigns, persuasion and tactics for high-stakes presentations, and organizational learning for profit and non-profit organizations. Additional research interests include: public diplomacy and communication across cultures for international organizations, including the United Nations. His research has been published in academic proceedings and conferences and peer-reviewed journals in the U.S. and overseas.

Dr. Natalie Redcross teaches courses in intermediate-level and advanced-level public relations. She began her career as a reporter, editor, public relations and marketing specialists and, later, a K-8 teacher. Additionally, she has worked in the entertainment and theater arts, education and nonprofit arenas as a PR specialist and consultant. Dr. Redcross and her co-author, Dr. Jim Eggensperger, recently completed their textbook, Data-Driven Public Relations Research.
