Iona University Career & Internship Fair Builds Connections from Coast to Coast

Over 400 students and 80 employers came together to explore opportunities

New Rochelle, N.Y. – Iona University’s Center for Career Development recently hosted its annual fall Career & Internship Fair, providing students with an opportunity to build connections and learn more about a variety of employers from coast to coast. Over 80 employers were in attendance, representing diverse industries such as government, business, education, health sciences, law enforcement, nonprofit and many more.

“Thank you to all the employers who made this day such a success,” said Jennifer Friary, director of Career Development. “It is always rewarding to see students making important progress toward their career goals and we are proud of all the hard work they put in to prepare.”

Iona has long been renowned for the career value it adds for students and graduates. On average, 92 percent of Iona undergraduates were either employed full-time or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduation.

In addition, Iona also was named to The Princeton Review’s 2024 national list of “The Best 389 Colleges” and The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse’s “2024 Best Colleges in America.” Notably, the WSJ ranked Iona at #66 in the nation overall and #8 in the nation among Catholic schools, emphasizing graduation rates and the earning power of Iona graduates.

Looking ahead, Iona’s next Career & Internship Fair is scheduled for February 29, 2024. Interested employers should contact careerdevelopment@iona.edu or call (914) 633-2462 to learn more and reserve a spot today!

EXCITED & READY

At the Career Fair, Alessandra Falciglia ’24, a psychology major, and Julia Garzaniti ’25, a marketing major, both said they felt ready to put their best foot forward.

As they were preparing to take their professional headshots, they credited Iona’s Center for Career Development with helping them on everything from resume writing and interview skills to career exploration, networking and more.

“I told them my interests and what I’m passionate about and they helped me explore possible career options and what I might enjoy doing,” said Falciglia. “It really taught me how important it is to put yourself out there. I’m ready to try new things, even if it’s something unexpected.”

“It’s nerve-racking, but I’m also really excited to see where I’m going to end up,” Garzaniti added.

Last summer, Chase Bateman ’25, a finance major from Westerville, OH, had the opportunity to intern at the South Korean company Mirae Asset Global Investments in Manhattan, where he gained exposure to wealth management and investment banking. Now, he’s looking ahead to his next summer internship.

Bateman said he felt well-prepared for the career fair, especially praising his experience with Iona’s Gaels Go Further mentoring program, which paired him with an alumni mentor who has offered invaluable career guidance and support.

“I think there’s a level of professionalism through the LaPenta School of Business where as a student, you come to understand how to present yourself to other people and that really helps in a situation like this,” said Bateman, a member of the men’s varsity swimming and diving team. “They’re looking for everyone to succeed and to go further together.”
